Titan Comics has announced Highlander: The Original Screenplay, the graphic novel based on the first draft of the 1986 film, will now be released a four-issue series, starting this December. Adapted by Gregory Widen, the writer of the script himself, with artist Szymon Kudranski, the book will retell the story of Christopher Lambert‘s immortal Scotsman Connor MacLeod “as you’ve never seen it before.”

Widen’s screenplay, which he wrote as a UCLA student, differed significantly from the final movie (co-written by Peter Bellwood and Larry Ferguson) when it came to several characters’ backstories, as well as the denouement. Titan, who will become the third Highlander comics publisher after IDW and Dynamite, released an Art & Making of book to commemorate the film’s 40th anniversary earlier this month.
Issue #1 will be released on December 2, with a main cover by Gerardo Zaffino (which has not been revealed yet), and a host of variants you can check out the art for below. Zaffino’s cover A will also be available as a ink-only virgin cardstock cover (G) and on foil (H); Kudranski’s cover (B) will have a textless cardstock variant (I); Claudia Gironi‘s cover D will also be available on foil (J); and Brian Bysouth‘s original poster art will be on cover E, K (virgin cardstock) and L (foil).
The book’s collected edition is now listed for a release on July 13, 2027. The release date for the upcoming remake of the film, starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Dave Bautista, remains currently unknown.
