This year’s Chinese New Year marked the year of the snake, so it seems fitting that it this year we are getting not one, but two representations of Cold Slither in action figure form! For those of you who didn’t rush home from school every weekday morning in the 80s to watch G.I. Joe, Cold Slither is hair metal band consisting of the Cobra affiliated Dreadnok mercenary group.
Earlier this week, Hasbro announced a Cold Slither four pack of action figures exclusive to San Diego Comic Con. The figures are in the G.I. Joe Classified series. You get Zartan on lead vocals and guitar, Buzzer on drums, Torch on bass and Ripper on keys. The accessories include a full drum set with the band’s logo, flying V guitar, bass and keytar. The guitars even include removable straps to better outfit your band. This set will be exclusive to SDCC ’25, with a limited amount of sets available after the convention on Hasbro Pulse.
Despite being in the Classified line, Hasbro took a thankfully retro design with these action figures, staying true to the cartoon while providing the level of detail you’d expect from G.I. Joe: Classified. Mock ups have been provided, but unfortunately, Hasbro didn’t have their Cold Slither figures on display at their booth when we visited during Toy Fair.
But that’s not all the Cold Slither coming our way in the year of the snake. Super7 had on display at their Toy Fair booth a Cold Slither Zartan in their new G.I. Joe Reaction+ line. While G.I. Joe Reaction figures, with their 5 points of articulation, have been around for years, Reaction+ figures are more akin to the classic G.I. Joe figures of the 1980s with more articulation and an O-ring connecting the torso and hips. Zartan comes with a guitar and microphone, and is packaged on a classic looking card back. I couldn’t get anyone from Super7 to confirm at Toy Fair if we’d see the rest of Cold Slither in Reaction+ form. But if Zartan sells well, hopefully we will! Zartan will be released this summer.
