Image Comics has revealed Vampire on Aisle 6, a new three-issue series created by writer/artist Zoe Thorogood with folk rock musician and Harley Poe frontman Joe Whiteford. The book, which marks Whiteford’s first comic, follows Luka, a man who was recently bitten by a vampire, who’s “trapped in a mascot-themed superstore, [where] the Sun won’t set for another ten hours, and he’s just made his first kill.”
The comic will be accompanied by an EP. Thorogood says, “Vampire on Aisle 6 is a comic + album about a self-proclaimed vampire trapped in a mascot-themed grocery store. It’s a story about traumatic change and the isolation that follows. We hope readers/listeners are ready for an unconventional vampire story and understand, that really, It’s All Just Meat.”
Whiteford adds, “Zoe took an idea I’ve had in my head for years and has created a bloody, heart felt, anti-corporate, sexy comic released along side 8 new Harley Poe songs that reveal insight to the story and its characters. It’s a lovely punk rock collaboration of music and art, and it’s definitely not your average vampire tale.”
Thorogood, 28, and Whiteford, 46, are a couple who tied the knot earlier this month. She discussed the project in an interview with Popverse earlier this year, saying Whiteford struggled for years to come up with an ending for his concept, until she suggested turning it into a comic. Issue #1 will be released on December 23, with several covers by Thorogood, and one by Whiteford, which you can check out below, along with a four-page preview.
