Vault is bringing Pete Wentz’s Dying Inside to comic stores for an exclusive edition! The new graphic novel is from Wentz (Fall Out Boy), Hanna Klein (Everything’s Fine), and Lisa Sterle (The Modern Witch Tarot). Not to mention it’s illustrated by acclaimed artist Nathan Gooden (Barbaric, Brandon Sanderson’s Dark One, The Rush) and set to be available everywhere in September 2024!

The story centers around Ash’s big finale, or what she envisions as her perfect exit from the stage of life, permanently. Ash is 16 and she is apathetic to the core and thinks that death is the best way to seek the relief she is chasing after. The thing is there is nothing more embarrassing than dying a lame death. Unfortunately, those plans fail when the knife she bought off a web store is charmed with a spell of protection. She needs to find the witch that turned her grand exit attempt into immortality, the worst gift Ash could get. The witch turns out to be another 16-year-old girl named Liv and together they vow to break the charm and fight for Ash’s death. Things will get more complicated because of this strange new antidepressant called Somnia and worse, her mom’s boyfriend, Greg.

Wentz states:

So psyched to be releasing Dying Inside. Hannah is one of my favorite contemporary writers, kind of if Larry David and Elliott Smith had a kid, and Lisa‘s an excellent addition to help bring this to life with her artistry. Can’t wait for it to be out in the world.

Co-writer Klein adds on:

When the idea sparked for Dying Inside, I had no idea what form it would end up taking. The fact that it started my foray into the world of graphic novels is one of the most exciting and surprising series of events and I’m so incredibly grateful. I’ve been working with Pete on various creative endeavors throughout the years, and I feel like our separate styles and shared vision really came through on this project especially with the absolutely singular and incredible art by Lisa Sterle, and the steady and supportive hand of Vault to guide the way. I feel so lucky that our vision was met with open arms and a million “yesses” to create the exact project we were hoping to achieve.

Vault Comics CCO and editor-in-chief Adrian Wassel emphasizes that Dying Inside is a testament to their love of storytelling across different mediums and art forms. He notes that it represents the closest glimpse into the future they are striving to create, offering fans a preview of what’s to come.

Dying Inside is available for preorder and will be in stores on September 17, 2024!
